Montgomery reports that the First regiment including Mobile companies will depart around midnight for the Mexican border. They will reach Mobile about 7 a.m. Friday with a one hour stop. Loading of equipment began at sunrise and continues tonight. Baggage for boys must be left at the L and N baggage room.
Local railroad offices report First infantry en route to Nogales Ariz will depart mobilization grounds late tonight. Exact departure time not stated. Parade planned in Mobile may be postponed continuation noted on Page Seven.
Attorney General W L Martin of Alabama has not arrived in Mobile to pursue enforcement of the prohibition law. Solicitor Hugo L Black, who came to Mobile, says he will not prosecute cases and may return to Birmingham. Black discussed conditions with officials and sheriffs but remains reticent about future action.
The firm of Cleveland Bros. reported a Ford touring car stolen Wednesday night. Police were notified and an alert issued to officers with a description of the vehicle and the probable thief.
Boston resident Norfman Prince, sergeant major in the Franco American flying corps, died recently after being wounded in action. Prince was decorated for valor and served with distinction.
Evans E. Davis manager of the Gulf Coast Produce Exchange reports no damage to crops or citrus in Mobile County from the recent storm. He says rain was needed and that exhibits for the Gulf Coast Fair are being arranged with Produce Exchange and Horticultural Society, with shipments to be gathered from various communities.
Mayor Harry Pillans will declare Monday afternoon October 30 a half holiday to mark the opening of the Gulf Coast Fair. Mort L. Bixler, secretary of the fair association, asked the mayor in a letter to coincide the holiday with the opening, urging steps to attract large crowds.
The Engineering Corps of the North Carolina National Guard, 116 strong under Captain Gillette, spent a short drill in Mobile en route to El Paso. They paraded Government street to Royal then Bienville Square before leaving the city. Mobile physician Dr G and Captain G L Gillette were noted among attendees.
H. J. Johnson and John Booth, white men, fought yesterday afternoon in an alley behind a street. Each man was fined and records show penalties imposed by the authorities.
The bay steamer Apollo ran aground on sand islands in the storm but was floated and reached harbor with only a broken rudder chain and rudder unshipping. Tug Nimrod assisted, repairs underway, captain says 8:30 departure today. No deaths reported from the storm. barometer fell to 29.16. Bay steamer Pleasure Bay and motor boat Daphne also made regular crossings with large passenger lists. Small craft sought shelter behind Twelve-mile Island during the gale.
Mr. W. C. Lloyd, superintendent of the Postal Telegraph Co. from Birmingham, is in Mobile assisting Manager Eugene Auter with handling increased business after a Pensacola storm. He says wind reached 114 miles per hour, a weather tower was blown away, two people were slightly injured, and shipping fared well despite the velocity.
Members of a motion picture company filming in Mobile take views at Spring Hill College today. The crew will shoot local scenes for the Alabama Travelogue to advertise the state's resources and advantages.
Returning from an inspection tour over the Alabama Tennessee Northern road yesterday, Mr. John T. Cochrane said the line is using every car it can and will divide novelties fairly. Mills along the line are now outputting 106 cars a day as the car shortage eases. He expects a record business once normal conditions return.
Paris reports fresh and successful French and Serbian attacks in Macedonia. Serbian forces seize Brod on the Cerna river southeast of Monastir as Bulgarians previously retook it. Paris says trenches west of the Vardar were penetrated a quarter mile in an attack. French pressure on Peronne continues on the Somme, taking the first German line southwest of the town.
A survey found Pensacola endured the 114 mile gale with relatively light damage though roofs ripped, trees felled, windows broken and several vessels sunk or beached. One fatality reported the drowning of a cook from a sunken steamer while train service may be halted for a week. Jug Flanders attempted crossing the bay and sank with all but shore survivors.
Passengers arriving on the afternoon Mobile and Bay Shore train reported no hurricane damage at Ala Port Herron near Delchamps, Coden or Bayoula.

He was in Mobile in October 1915 then went to Shreveport La mail to him at Shreveport never delivered. A letter at the headquart ers addressed to Walter Boils 269 East Virginia St Memphis Tenn awaits delivery.
Weather delays joint meeting of school commissioners and city committees on the educational amendment. A large gathering is anticipated at the Chamber of Commerce Friday to launch plans for a strong Mobile county majority.
President Wilson rode through Kendallville Ligonier and Goshen Indiana greeted by cheering crowds. He refused formal speeches but expressed pleasure in meeting voters including a farmer who said he wanted to shake hands with a real man. Democratic committee aboard the train pledged Indiana support.
Judge Semmes requests Judge W G Mc Corvey of Monroe County Alabama to come to Mobile and preside over the current criminal term. Semmes is ill and will rest during the interim. Criminal cases set for Thursday are postponed to next week. An attempt to bring Supernumerary Judge Alston to relieve Semmes failed due to Alston's Jefferson County duties.
Cases of setting fresh meat against L. E. Clark were called in the recorder's court today and continued until Friday. The matters involve meat handling and not selling adulterated milk.
Francisco Villa and his forces reportedly seized supplies in Cusihuisic during an attack dated October 10 and held the town the prior Saturday. Report from passengers in El Paso notes Villa’s continuing activity in the region.
A Vienna Zeitung war correspondent reports on the Eastern front that Russian artillery advantages are growing as shortages of subsistence or ammunition disappear. The dispatch from Berne notes improved supply improving Russian firepower.
A Cunard liner Alaunia struck a mine in the Channel and sank on a forenoon tide while en route to London. The Liverpool office reported some passengers aboard and that most were saved while several crew members remained missing. The new ship, 520 feet long with 13 405 tons, had 186 cabin passengers and 260 crew at the time.
Mobile hunters prepare for the early open of the wild duck season on November 1 and 2. They gather arms decoys togs boats and other gear while awaiting the Department of Agriculture survey guidance on locating hunting areas and safe practices.
