Sweet potatoes from Gulf Coast territory reach Northern markets ahead of principal producers with about six weeks lead. Lettuce arrives earlier due to climate, while spinach and cauliflower ship January to March, ahead of other centers for peak demand.
The Gulf Coast Marketing Exchange aims for one million dollars in output in its first year with hopes of reaching ten million in a few years. Cohen initiates the first planting of lettuce spinach and cauliflower for winter marketing, with twenty five shipping points in Baldwin and Mobile counties ready to join. Bay Minette John Munn and other communities push for a consolidated brand and trademark protected market to shield Baldwin products from competition. In Chattanooga news from Dalton Georgia Will Gordy 18 Tunnel Hill was killed on McCamey street after a jealousy sparked quarrel with an unknown man. Gordy and friend Sam Clark had escorted girls home from the fair grounds when two men followed them. Gordy wrestled with one assailant and was shot. Clark attempted to aid but could not identify the attackers.
Partly cloudy conditions continue tonight and Saturday with little temperature change. Mobile and Alabama see gentle easterly winds, while Mississippi expect possible showers Saturday with light east and southeast breezes.
Judge Toulmin in federal court denied the petition to set aside the sale of the New Orleans Mobile and Chicago rail road.
