Harold Shirley a shipping master is arrested in Mobile after six months of efforts by three federal departments to combat the shanghaiing of Emmet Smith and Clarence Bailey. The case centers on Shirley allegedly misleading the boys into boarding the Italian bark Mincio for Rio de Janeiro and spans immigration and justice actions from New York to Jamaica and Rio de Janeiro.
Yen Hee, Chinese crewman aboard the British steamship Copenhagen, was fined 50 dollars by federal authorities in New Orleans for offering opium to friends during a port call. Captain John S. Crichton faced costs and trouble as the vessel proceeded to Mobile after the incident.

Poughkeepsie New York October 2 1926 The grand jury reviewing charges in Harry Thaws Matteawan escape will be discharged next Monday It recessed to October 6 and no indictments were found against Thaw or anyone aiding the escape District Attorney Conger said after a conference with William T Jerome that the case would be left in the hands of the attorney general.
