City and county officials praised the Bankers Banquet at the Battle House for its success. Speakers lauded local progress and financial leadership, highlighting community growth, civic cooperation, and strong economic prospects.
Thomas Fenwick, a Mobile resident, circulated letters to southern mayors proposing a Co operative Munitions Engineering and shipbuilding Company near Mobile. District Attorney Alex Pitts says the scheme violated postal laws by soliciting funds for a non existent company. Fenwick booked a northbound train after claiming to have urgent calls, while a hotel clerk noted his taxi ride to the station.
