An International News Service correspondent aboard the Olympic reports the Audacious sinking off Ireland with 960 crew aboard. The Olympic tried to drag the battleship toward shallow water using a heavy cable, which snapped under strain in heavy seas.
Mobile will for the first time ship a consignment of cotton to La Guayra Venezuela. A cargo of 300 bales compressed from Demopolis Alabama by Lehman and Co will be sent by the steamer Falk and Mobile officials expect this to start extensive South American shipments.
Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts died in France at 8 p.m. after a chill followed his arrival in the war zone. Born in India in 1832, he was son of General Sir Abraham G. Co. B. and Isabella Bunbury and educated at Eton Sandhurst and Addiscombe before a long military career.
Nashville reports Dr. Anna Howard Shaw will begin an eleventh term as NAWSA president after a primary showed no opposition. Anti-Shaw factions held long caucuses but could not nominate a challenger. Other offices selected administration candidates led by Katherine Dexter McCormick and Desha Breckinridge.

Despite rain and cold, Companies A B and E shot all day and all qualified. Company E posted the top company average of 124. Company M also joined on Saturday morning with others taking up long distance shooting.
