Ten towns were razed and the death toll estimated in the hundreds after a quake in the Aymaraes mountains. Survivors endure exposure and hunger while couriers report the disaster to Lima. The government dispatched relief provisions and funds.
In Muzquiz Coahuila a band of rebels killed five Federal officers and nine soldiers after a twenty four hour battle. Major Sostenes Gumjardo commanded the garrison of 14 men who refused to surrender and fought to the end. Reinforcements reached from Porfirio Diaz and repelled the attackers as the bodies were found bullet riddled.
Stephen Morales and Manuel Zamorra, both Mexicans, were found guilty of grand larceny with Zamorra also convicted of petit larceny. They stole an Elk pin and a gold chain from Julius Goldstein on Royal near Dauphin on July 23 and a locket from I. Dahlheimer on Dauphin. Detectives Lacey, Burch and Murphmorra helped capture them after reports, as Zamorra attempted to saw his way out of county jail.

Debates continue over the overturned hull believed to be the Regina, with lifeboats and cargo recovered along the shore. The Northern Queen crew survived, and a diver was sent to identify the overturned vessel.

Fort William Ont Nov 12 Fears were voiced for the steamer Seafield aground on Angus Island beyond Thunder Cape as the tug J T Horne made two trips but found no trace. Marine men think she slid off the rocks and sank immediately while laden with steel rails.
Arthur B. Carter, son-in-law of former Congressman Frank M. Nye, was arrested in Minneapolis on a bigamy charge. He allegedly confessed to marrying Zelma Bendezon on February 10, 1913 while his wife, a Nye daughter, was away. Carter reportedly wed Nye’s daughter sixteen years ago and there may be a grand jury involved.

Baton Rouge reports the bonded indebtedness committee of the state constitutional convention hears bankers on suitable securities for an $11 million January debt. The plan for 41 2 percent forty year bonds with two year certificates at 5 percent faces par sale doubts, prompting talk of higher rates or short-term certificates as backup. Long sessions continue daily to decide the issue.

Houston reports a strong hope to avert a strike by 2,500 Southern Pacific engineers firemen conductors and trainmen from New Orleans to El Paso after a 98 percent vote to walk out unless demands are met. Main issue is federated unions vs individual bargaining with the railroad though local wage talks continue. Negotiations may resume before action, aided by commercial interests in the southwest.
Dock Pleas was tried in the inferior criminal court on Wednesday for escaping from the county road and received sixty days extra at hard labor. Will More was sentenced to three months and twenty days hard labor for carrying concealed weapons. John Wood was fined $1 or ten days for hunting on another’s lands without a license.
