H. C. Peerson manager of H. S. Baxter & Co states that the lumber business is reopening with many mills resuming and all expected to be back soon on a permanent demand basis. He urges cooperation to boost production and restore activity.
H C Peerson, manager for H S Baxter & Co, says a direct order for 2 260 000 feet to the Italian government and other European demand will reopen the lumber trade. The Italian contract is nearly cut with shipside delivery set for December 1, and buyers will supply inspectors while Baxter handles delivery to Italian shops.
The battleship Nevada exceeded contract speed in trials off Rockland Maine with a maximum 21.04 knots and an average 20.9 knots. Naval trial board called the tests very successful as Nevada prepares for a twelve hour endurance run at 19 knots. Sister ship Oklahoma to begin standardization trials in January.
Directors of the American Cotton Oil Company declared a 1 percent quarterly dividend on common stock. The firm reports earnings have risen substantially in recent months due to strong demand for by products used in explosives manufacturing.
Edward Mc Manus, 31, secretary to a wealthy woman, killed his wife and four year old son by razor throat cuts, slashed his two month old daughter Gertrude, then took his own life. The infant likely survived. doctors cited recent illness and possible sudden insanity.
