County officials face fee reform urged by auditor

Young enters city commissioner race against Schwarz

Thomas J. Young, plumbing business owner and Comercampaign committee secretary, announced Saturday night his bid for city commissioner in the September election. He will face incumbent Laz Schwarz along with Foster Bale Sr and Captain Joseph H. Norville. The contest is expected to heat up in coming weeks.

Montgomery Signs Star Pitcher D. H. McLeod

President Wilcox of the Montgomery baseball club announced the signing of pitcher D. H. McLeod a former South Atlantic International and New York State league star. McLeod led the South Atlantic league in pitching three years ago and last season played for Jersey City before purchasing his release. He will report during the series with Atlanta.

Murder threat charge against Robert Mackey

Early Sunday police arrested Robert Mackey at his home at Eslava and Royal on a charge of threatening to kill his wife and 16 year old daughter. He returned drunk and fractured furniture then threatened to burn the house. The daughter fled to a neighbor. Mackey has prior brutal murder conviction.

Mercantile Building to Rise on North Royal Street

Demolition of the Elmer Maddox marble works site on North Royal Street nears completion. The new three story Mercantile Building for Kahn & Co will be brick and steel, fireproof, with electric elevators. A. Armitage holds the contract to finish by October 15, 1914.

Frank Hillman Reappointed Associate Mine Inspector

Frank Hillman of Birmingham has been reappointed by Governor O Neal as associate state mine inspector for a three year term after his present term expired. The appointment followed a conference with Chief Mine Inspector H Nesbitt and the governor in Montgomery.

Young Woman on Motorcycle Injured in Accident Near Mobile

Miss Fannie Atkinson of 57 North Catherine street suffered a dislocated hip and severe bruises Friday night when a motorcycle carrying a wagon seven miles from Mobile on Hall's Mill road collided. Bressingham also incurred severe bruises. They were taken to Mobile for treatment and were reported resting well Saturday night.
