President Wilson considers peaceful settlement steps and plans a speech to the League to Enforce Peace. An official briefing says he may formally offer mediation later. he views the war as deadlocked and harmful to all nations.
Through various channels Mr Wilson maintains contact on peace prospects and will convey a message to his audience tomorrow night read with interest by foreign representatives and the general public. A plan to admit laymen to annual conference membership will be put to referendum over four years. The conference set final adjournment for Monday noon.
In Boston the Unitarian Fellowship for Social Justice debated an anti preparedness resolution during the American Unitarian Association anniversary week. Rev W S Jones of Newport withdrew to protest. Five of the nine, including J. H. Mann and others, posted bonds Friday afternoon with a pledge not to participate in any uprising.
