The docks bureau suggested a 1700 foot deck costing 6 000 000 and a 31 009 civilian training camp appropriation for the Marine Corps. May 18 set for committee vote on the program.
One hundred seven Cymric crew members reach Bantry after their liner is torpedoed with no warning. Several crewmen suffer broken limbs and are sent to the hospital, authorities say the attack came without warning.
Rio de Janeiro May 10 The German minister said Berlin would gladly receive any Brazilian communication on the sinking of the Brazilian steamship Rio Branco by a German submarine. He expressed satisfaction that the Rio Branco crew were saved and noted that, after the inquiry, Brazil will demand indemnity.
Lieutenant Carl McMahon of the Alabama National Guard and a Mobile attorney was named to the executive committee of a Fort Oglethorpe formed group to establish a permanent training camp association. The plan aims to enroll at least 1,200 members by June with Robert Bacon as president.
Mrs. W. H. Newman, who shot her husband weeks ago, was granted bond of 150 dollars by Recorder Edington. Her case was set for June 1. Physicians say Mr. Newman is out of danger and expected to recover in about ten days. initial charge of assault with intent to murder was reduced to assault and battery.
Edward Mitchell files in the law and equity court a $3,000 damage suit against Gus Dahlgreen and Lena Dahlgreen for injuries said to occur March 28, 1916 when Dahlgreen's automobile allegedly struck Mitchell knocking him down. Mitchell seeks a jury trial.

Two French balloons that broke moorings in France landed near Hanover. One balloon carried a crew of three soldiers presumed officers who have not been captured. The French report says about twenty captive balloons broke free during a squall and some were carried toward German lines.
