Delegates Convene Mobile Meeting of Southern Wholesale Dry Goods

About fifty delegates attended the third annual Southern Wholesale Dry Goods Association convention at the Battle House auditorium Mobile leaders welcomed the group with remarks by J Lyons and E Oliver Fowlkes. Speakers from Birmingham Nashville Knoxville and Atlanta discussed costs pure fabric bills and proposed consolidations to aid wholesale merchants.

Woman Ends Life On Street Car In Birmingham

Mrs. T. A. Davenport of 1812 Fifteenth avenue North shot herself through the right breast while riding a North Highlands street car at Thirteenth avenue and Nineteenth street Tuesday about 11 30. She died on the operating table at Hillman Hospital after being rushed there by the conductor. The pistol belonged to her husband. She had reportedly left him shortly before 11 at his grocery store and boarded car 463.

Arrest Swift Sequel to Florida Inquiry

Shortly after a telegram from Jacksonville Florida's chief of police Detective Joseph Lacey arrested B F Mason a white man from Gainesville Florida a paper hanger. The telegram says Mason is wanted for a felony with Jacksonville authorities advised of the apprehension.

Judge Denies New Trial for Leo Frank in Mary Phagan Case

Judge Ben H. Hill of Fulton County Superior Court denied the extraordinary motion for a new trial for Leo M. Frank, sentenced to death for the murder of Mary Phagan. He said he would sign a bill of exceptions, enabling an appeal to the state supreme court.

City May Try These Firemen for Quitting Jobs Too Suddenly

Charles Marshall and William A. Lyons of Mobile fire department left without notice this morning. Fire chief Thomas Price filed the report with Mayor Pat Lyons, stating no reasons and offering no further details. Mayor Lyons will order an investigation into the sudden resignations.

Becker Faces Second Trial Over Rosenthal Murder

New York May 6 crowds fill criminal court corridors for the second trial of former Police lieutenant Charles Becker over the Rosenthal murder. The case stems from a 1912 uptown feud among gamblers, with Becker alleged to have incited the shooting of Herman Rosenthal. Thirteen Others Rescued From Columbian at Sea

The Columbian crew aboard the Columbian's boats were saved by the Manhattan and the Franconia. A wireless dispatch reports that twenty seven survivors including Chief Steward Matthews were rescued, with thirteen men and a body recovered from one boat. The ship caught fire Sunday night off Sable Island while Antwerp bound for New York.
