Reports from Berlin say Austro Hungarian and Italian warships clash in the Adriatic with airship raids on Ravenna. A Zeppelin raid on Saloniki is claimed destroyed amid ongoing Verdun front fighting and Irish rebel penalties unfold on Dublin.
The 72 by 40 foot air cruiser, propelled by two 120 horsepower motors, carries nine passengers. Roy Francis piloted the aircraft in trial flights at Sunnyvale California as the latest U S army air defender.
An official government statement reports a dirigible was destroyed yesterday by a British light cruiser squadron off the Schleswig coast. The incident was announced today by the government.
The Zeppelin L-20 was blown ashore on the Norwegian coast after a raid on the east coasts of England and Scotland. Norwegian authorities at Stavenger then blew up the disabled airship as a strong wind attempted to carry it away.
Athens reports on May 5 that Greeks assign great importance to the French troops occupying Florina, a town 18 miles south of Monastir, highlighting its strategic location in the region.
Paris reports that west of the Meuse German forces attacked north of Hill 304 but were repulsed along the front. An assault on trenches at Cappy south of the Somme failed. East of the Meuse and in the Woevre region there was intermittent bombardment and the front remained relatively calm.
Paris reports a semi official statement saying French forces executed a well planned operation that pushed Germans back from Dead Man's Hill on the northwest side of the Meuse line. The Germans suffered heavy losses and few prisoners were taken as they retreated from Hill No 265 and Hill 295.
In Stavanger Norway military authorities blew up the Zeppelin L-20 as it rolled in strong wind. Soldiers fired from sixty yards and the airship exploded with a great detonation and burned.
London May 5 The Casement trial will occur in London within a fortnight before three or five judges and a jury with Baron Reading likely presiding. The attorney general will prosecute. Sir Roger has asked Sir Edward Carson to defend him, though acceptance appears unlikely. Casement has reportedly recovered his health after threats of a nervous breakdown following capture.
London May 5 King George sends a dispatch to Lieutenant General Sir John Maxwell praising the troops in Ireland the Royal Irish Constabulary and the Dublin Metropolitan Police for their devotion to duty and spirit of self sacrifice in quelling the recent outbreak
In Dublin on May 5 with only one shot heard since late last night, authorities report ongoing destruction of large quantities of arms and ammunition by military forces.
The official communique states four prisoners Joseph Plunkett Edward Daly Michael O Hanrahan and William Pearse were sentenced to death and shot after confirmation by the commander in chief. Fifteen others sentenced to death were commuted to ten years penal servitude. The list includes Thomas Bevan Thomas Walsh Finian Lynch Michael Mervyn Dennis O Callaghan I EK Sweeney Patrick Mecnestry Peter Nancy William Tobin George Irvine John Doherty J J Walsh James McLinn J J Reid and John Williams. John McGarry was commuted from death to eight years. Francis Fahey and Richard Davys were sentenced to ten years.

The Talus, a 1954 net ton British ship, was recently acquired for 125,000 dollars, with other vessels including Westgate Hilston Hin nemoa Walden Abbey M. J. Taylor and more forming the growing fleet.

Humane Officer J. B. Ducourneau returned to Mobile from a southern county inspection. He found stock properly handled by owners and only one horse, at Venetia, Alabama, had to be relieved from service.
Henry G. Rhower, 68, pioneer engineer, died in St Louis on Thursday while overseeing a railroad project in Georgia. He previously served as chief engineer for the Missouri Pacific Iron Mountain system.
Stocks fell at the opening as Wall Street digested the German note with war group issues dropping 3 to 6 points and Bethlehem Steel down 12. United States Steel opened 4,000 shares at 6 1/2 to 81 amid broad selling while rails steadied. Later readings suggested the note could be conciliatory and some bankers avoided comment.
New York May 5 The cotton market moved higher on rumors of peace and a friendlier political outlook.
