Rebels in Dublin surrender after their leaders say the uprising failed and the movement cannot win. The nine-word headline notes surrender as the core outcome and frames the event as a lost cause for the Dublin rebels.
Official statement announced surrender of all rebel leaders in Dublin. A ship brought 250 Sinn Feiners to Holyhead, all prisoners from the Dublin fighting, with no injuries reported. They were sent by train to prisons in interior England.

Assistant engineer E. L. Strange reports a Baldwin survey shows a new road from Little River north to the gulf passing Bay Minette Summerdale Robertsdale and Foley. The road will be built with sand and clay gravel and some clear gravel by the Baldwin road commissioners.
Night violence erupted as gunfire forced residents to flee while surrounding houses bore bullet marks and barricades of thick oaken planks. Similar scenes unfolded over Wine Tavern bridge as the attack continued.
New York May 1 The engineer and fireman strike on lighterage vessels idled hundreds of tugboats and towing craft severely disrupting port traffic. Wage demands ranged from 14 percent for engineers to 20 percent for firemen. Only about 40 of 700 tugs and steam lighters operated, threatening cargo delays on steamships and railroads. Union leaders forecast a massive May Day parade and mass meetings in Union Square and across 26 halls.
The New York harbor strike by engineers and sailors has no effect on Mobile. Mallory Line officials say the May Day walkout will not impact Mobile unless cargo loading or unloading is disrupted in New York.
New York May 1 The Standard Oil Company of New York reports 1915 net earnings of 15 761 663 up 8 025 744 from 1914 The surplus rises from 1 736 900 to 5 761 663 and total surplus from 16 701 591 to 26 462 254 Now the surplus exceeds one third of the companys capitalization.
The city commission met in regular session and approved a payroll totaling 24 312.46 dollars. Mayer Lyons presided with full membership present. The record notes employees will receive payment for the period.
German forces launched a violent attack north of Dead Man's Hill on the Verdun front but were defeated by French troops. The war office cited enormous German losses and noted multiple counterattacks failed. Aerial bombardment targeted supply hubs near Thiaucourt and a camp near Lincourt.
