The Ways and Means body approves Plan 10 to transform Mobile into a City Beautiful. The resolution also backs aiding home gardeners, promoting home products, and raising funds for a summer band concert.
Monday night session approves making Mobile The City Beautiful by planting azaleas on Government Street and other streets. It endorses Home Garden Association, backs a Home Products Show, funds public band concerts, and passes resolutions regretting M D Kahn's departure from Mobile.
The Bat tle House session of the Chamber of Commerce Ways and Means committee heard Mobile and Ohio official J S Taylor urge immediate city beautification. He proposed lining Government street with azaleas and expanding plantings to other streets to lift Mobile toward nationwide recognition as The City Beau. Paris reports a French official statement saying there was no change in the Verdun region overnight. East of the Meuse conditions were calm while to the west there were some artillery duels.
A Saloniki dispatch reports five German aeroplanes bombarded the city on Monday. Eighteen civilians were killed and 21 wounded, including a Greek official. The Germans lost two aircraft, one shot down near Lake Amotova.
Foreign Minister Sazonoff told the Duma that no agreement exists among the Entente for neutralizing the Dardanelles. He said such an accord would not satisfy the Russian people who believe Russia must secure a route to the sea.
Bessie Reimer confessed to starting a fire in her Cleveland apartment to die by her own actions. Two people died and about a score were injured, many leaping from third floor windows. Reimer survived with burns as police linked the incident to a prior white slave investigation.
Dr Joseph C Sullivan dentist and former city alderman died Tuesday at 12 05 p m at his home 255 St Joseph street after a stroke of paralysis He was born February 1869 in Mobile educated at Christian Brothers Mt St Marys Seminary and Philadelphia Dental College He practiced in Mobile and was a member of Knights of Columbus Young Lions Institute Catholic Knights and other groups Survived by wife six children two brothers and a sister plus other relatives.

The $150,000 rural school bonds were sold Monday afternoon by the board of revenue and road commissioners to Otto Marx & Co. of Birmingham for $159,406, the highest bid among seventeen. Cummings Prudden & Co. of Toledo had bid $159,968 but was rejected over a required tax levy guarantee. County Attorney R. E. Gordon approved the award.
