British Losses in Flanders Reported Heavy

London dispatches say British casualties in recent Flanders fighting are very high. Lord Hamilton claims Grenadier Guards lost their colonel and 16 officers killed or wounded with only 300 of 1100 men surviving. Cameronians suffered severe losses and war authorities concealment is criticized. MP Sutherland notes Colonel McLean and four officers killed with others wounded. Times lists 25 officers killed not in official lists, totaling 338 officers wounded or killed.

Callaghan Tax Claims Amid Office Abolition

State tax commission reports Callaghan has tax claims but no job. In Mobile, the county tax commissioner’s office, held by D. J. Callaghan, is abolished. Settlement of pending cases transfers to the county official. Governor signs bill abolishing county offices. commission to hear cases and return to the capital.

American Vessel Ordered to Court

The American steamer Maracas, sailing from New York February 22 to Rotterdam and Copenhagen with packing house products, has been ordered before a British prize court at Hull. Detained at Kirkwall since March 11, it is expected the United States will name a consular agent there amid numerous ship detentions.

Viking Returns to Port With All Horses Except One

Seeberg Steamship Company reports the Norwegian steamer Viking delivering all but one horse destined for St France and the French army after a stop in Bermuda. The vessel plans to return to port next month. Other ships including Dictator and Colombia are due with cargoes to Tela and Puerto Cortez while repairs proceed on Onaway and pending banana cargo from Puerto Cortez aboard Fijell.
