The jury found James G Oakley not guilty after four hours of deliberation at 9 50 p m. The verdict drew cheers from hundreds in the court room as Oakley embraced jurors. The judge dismissed the jurors with thanks and no date was set for remaining cases.

The case resumed with defense charges and state requests, Judge Brown called for the book of evidence used in the convict department. jurors asked for it to compare Bernard Franks's Montgomery testimony with earlier statements. Ray Rushton led defense. Captain Frank S White for the state. A currency package shown to jurors sparked a dispute over access and custody.
Ky March 14 A bill proposing a penitentiary term for every man convicted of eloping with a girl whose parents consented to marriage has been introduced in the legislature. The House approved the bill by 63 to 4 and it will come up for further action.
Congress member George W. Taylor says bids for the Mobile post office should require Alabama marble if possible, or marble of any kind. He plans to request withdrawal of bids that specify ornamental terracotta stone or stucco unless the plans match the marble understanding with the treasury department and chamber of commerce.
London March 14 Miss Selby the queen's chief dresser struggled to open the clasp on Queen Mary's large pearl necklace after the last court of the season. In attempting to help the queen, the chain broke and nine pearls fell loose. The damage is estimated at ten thousand dollars.
Liz Neal two and a half, daughter of J. C. Neal, was abducted this afternoon on Second Avenue in Birmingham near Woolworths store. An unknown man snatched her from her aunt George Sutton as onlookers watched and sped away with police suspecting an inside job by someone in Neal’s employ.
Exports from the Mobile port show a rise in February 1914 compared with February 1918, signaling prosperity. Germany leads in exports to Mobile, followed by France and Cuba. Gulfport Scranton and Birmingham area ports also contribute. Sisal imports from Mexico boost February imports by about 275,000 dollars, with Mexico as top importer and Germany next.

Louise Van Keuren was acquitted by a jury in Judge Charles M. Walker's court after a trial in which John B. Van Keuren was killed. The jury reached its verdict after testimony that included the presence of Penrose in the case.
From Citronelle Alabama on March 14 a delegation of about twenty five women signaled their intention to join a suffrage club associated with Mrs Sonn T Mee na of New Orleans. A special Mobile Equal Suffrage Association meeting is set for Monday night at the Can Beh hall at 8.
Frederic Nugent, head of the Irridescent Order of Iris, is sent to the Tombs by Judge Hunt on charges of mail fraud. He ran schemes promising money jobs wives and more, teaching 1800 pupils to acquire the mystical eye and recite the soul kiss poem. His wife Anna Nugent and others are named as witnesses.
John C. C. Mayo national Democratic committeeman from Kentucky and millionaire is seriously ill at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati where he has been confined for ten days with Bright's disease. Dr Hebert F. Briggs of New York says Mayo has a fighting chance if no further complications arise.

A Los Angeles woman, known for over two years as Isllayans, asserts she is Dorothy Arnold, daughter of New York financier Francis R. Arnold who vanished in 1910. She says she left home to be away, loves sunshine, and refuses to reveal her experiences since leaving. Doctors treat her after a fall, while relatives doubt her claim and say letters from her father have stopped.
Serious rioting reported in Terre Haute Indiana on March 14 linked to the streetcar employees strike. Clashes occurred as workers called out and scuffles erupted with police and bystanders amid heightened tensions.
Ex sheriff J S Drago and ex J P Oberhaus urged several liquor dealers in Mobile to contribute to the Comer campaign fund. They claimed business would improve under Comer and cited past earnings during prohibition. The pair, both former Comer appointees, pressed for six dollars from the St Andrew Hotel bar proprietor.
