Senator Inge said he received the letter Saturday morning and will study it fully before commenting. He declined interviews until he has fully examined the merits and will issue a public statement once his review is complete.
Gov Colquitt faces questions over state ownership of Mobile’s waterfront and whether to transfer title to city or a public board. Attorney Harry T. Smith accuses private holders of blocking needed improvements and urges decisive action in the legislature. Smith urges governors to push for public ownership to force infrastructure upgrades.
In Pensacola on March 9 the Holmes County circuit court will hear the case of John Chancey of Bonifay accused of killing his wife for her money. Large sums were hidden in her room. $2,000 known to be on her person at death is missing. Another sensational murder case, that of the Barnes, is set for trial this week.
Following a bubonic plague case on a Havana vessel and a suspect among 200 passengers bound for Key West, Surgeon Barnes orders detention of all ships from suspected ports. Havana imposes strict passenger handling as the two aboard are confined and the rest held seven days before departure.
Ferdinand Pinney Earle the American artist and Miss Charlotte Herman who were found guilty of kidnapping Harold Earle left Romorantin on Sunday heading to Blois. Their departure follows the trial in which the pair were convicted of abducting Earle’s son from a boarding school near Paris.
Historic Moody church founded in 1858 by Dwight L. Moody suffered fire damage early today in Chicago. Authorities evacuated parts of the building as investigators began assessing the extent of the blaze and potential sources of ignition.
Percy W. Maer, newly appointed collector of the port of Mobile, took the oath of office Monday morning and assumed charge, succeeding H. Gordon Ashley. He arrived Sunday night and was welcomed by office staff and inspectors. formerly editor of the Columbus Dispatch, he has long been active in East Mississippi politics.
A jury was selected in Montgomery for the trial of James G. Oakley former president of the Alabama convict board charged with embezzling 2207 from Bernard Frank & Co for underwear returns. The case opened with both sides ready and Governor O Neals involvement noted. Oakley appeared well in court with his brother and attorneys as rural jurors were seated.
Mobile conductor William H. Cooper was arrested near Shu buna Mississippi on Saturday night in connection with the killing of Fireman M. E. Cole by Engineer Marshall Baskin of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Baskin claimed self defense. Cooper’s arrest suggests an accessory role and that the killing followed a personal dispute rather than self defense.
County Commissioner 8 P Gaillard, candidate for state railroad commissioner, returned to Mobile from a statewide campaign tour. He says he found enthusiastic encouragement in forty counties he visited.
Montgomery March 9 editor William T. Sheehan denies Comer whiskey deal allegations and says he protested to Charles M. Lewis against secret agreements with beer and liquor interests in Alabama He questioned Comer about conferences and offers to the industry and urged public explanation of the talks and terms.

In Mobile territory state senate districts list several counties with multiple contenders, plus single-county districts including Madison Calhoun Talladega Tuscaloosa Jefferson Lowndes Marengo Wilcox Barbour Montgomery Dallas and Mobile. Solicitor qualifiers cover Choctaw Clarke Marengo Monroe with John McDuffie and others named.

Plans from the Sisters of Mercy head office in Emmetsburg Maryland call for a four story pressed brick hospital on North Twelfth Avenue with a basement for the sisters and attendants. Pensacola Hospital Association will review plans and public subscriptions have raised ten thousand dollars with a site donation of five thousand. Remaining funds estimated at sixty to seventy five thousand will be provided by the sisters who will operate the hospital. The facility will be modernly equipped.
A Missouri Athletic Club blaze on March 9 in St Louis killed six men and injured about thirty others. The fire started on the third floor dining room and spread rapidly to adjoining areas. Inmates leaped to roofs to escape, and a bank vault held over a million in currency. The building, owned by Boatmen's Bank, burned as crews fought the flames. several men remained missing and the death toll was expected to rise.
A large auxiliary warehouse of American Grain & Fertilizer Co. at Adams Street and Water Street burned with hay and fertilizer contents. The blaze, checked by 125 psi from a river fireboat, drew nearly all city companies and caused minor damage to nearby Brown-Morgan Coal yards. insurance covers losses likely under 50 000 dollars. Chief Price cites carelessness as the cause.
