Mobile Chamber of Commerce members will meet tonight at 8 in the chamber to discuss two key issues. The agenda centers on improving the Tombigbee and Warrior rivers to boost Mobile as a port and on the current tax system, with no formal speeches, aiming for decisive methods and full attendance.
Washington June 8 The great wheat crop forecast by federal officials projects a total yield near one billion bushels if conditions stay favorable. Winter wheat, on the greatest acreage sown, is seen at about 600,000,000 bushels with about 9,000,000 less than last year. Spring wheat is forecast at 274,000,000 bushels, about 66,000,000 below the 1912 peak.
The Alabama Railroad Commission opened hearings on Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company’s request to raise passenger rates from 212 to 3 cents per mile on branch lines. George W. Lamb of Louisville, assistant comptroller, testified as the session began. The case was expected to conclude later in the day.
The Mobile City Commission cannot allocate 250 to support the Mobile Chamber of Commerce music committee due to insufficient funds and no prior budget provision for such emergency. Attorneys Clarke Brown and Howard filed a petition by the Mobile Coal Brown Morgan Coal Provost Farrow Coal companies seeking a carload coal tax. the commission set Thursday at 11 a.m. to hear petitioners.

Two men riding in a buggy toward a bank were robbed by automobile bandits on June 8 in New York. The robbers fled with a satchel containing 8500 after entering an automobile across a foot bridge near the New York Central tracks.
James Mudd an aged Biloxi man caused police trouble Monday at the 8 K C residence. When approached he claimed to be a tree and attacked with a dirk asserting ownership. Judge Champlin remanded him to jail to await a sanity inquiry.
London workers at the Smithfield meat market, between 3 000 and 4 000 men, volunteered to work four hours daily turning out war munitions. A committee plans to close the market two hours earlier on four days weekly to offset longer hours. The Associated Chambers of Agriculture urged the War Office to draft farm hands under NCOs to aid farmers in gathering the hay crop.
President Wilson announced he will attend Confederate Memorial Day ceremonies at Arlington Cemetery next Sunday afternoon. He is not expected to give an address.

San Francisco June 8 The International Association of Dancing Masters in convention here says it will invent a new step to replace the so called zoo dances. The step combines the fox trot canter waltz and one step between modern dances and the old fashioned waltz. A demonstration will be given next Thursday.
