Captain Lane of the tanker Winifred reports that ten or twelve Americans have been killed by Mexicans near Tampico in the last few days. His information was believed unreliable by Tampico reporters before his departure.
Seattle June 2. For the second year running companies E and H of the Fourteenth United States Infantry headed the army in rifle marksman ship. The units returned from range practice with 71 expert riflemen. Company H had 2 expert riflemen 24 sharpshooters and 13 marksmen while Company E had 39 expert riflemen 20 sharpshooters and 8 marksmen.
In Madrid on June 2 editors Senor Bianco and Senor Borras clashed with sabres amid rising anti-German and pro-German sentiment. Both men were wounded in the duel.
A fallen electric wire at Palmetto and St. Emanuel streets touched Jarvis Woolsey, a white resident of 460 St. Emanuel, injuring his left hand. The incident was investigated and deemed not serious by the police reported that night.

In Atlanta on June 2 Leo M. Frank under death sentence and James Conley the condemned witness are due to meet for the first time since the 1906 trial. They will be examined at the county jail in the $10,000 suit by Mrs J W Coleman mother of Mary Phagan against National Pencil factory seeking to prove death occurred in the factory building. Conley, convicted as an accessory, will be released after ten months of a twelve month sentence with two months cut for good behavior.
R W Taylor vice president of the Mobile and Ohio railroad said the Bay Shore branch extension from Mobile to Cedar Point will connect with a transfer boat to Dauphin Island and be in operation by July 1. Travel time Mobile to the water is about one hour and fifty minutes with three miles to Cedar Point already graded to completion.

Lee Sane, daughter of a South leader, was presented by George P Harris on stage to roaring cheers and rebel shouts. General Julian Carr hailed Lee as the world’s greatest hero, while Carr’s address lauded the Confederacy with calls for reconciliation and a defense of Southern symbols. Thomas Fatviso, a seifering man visiting the county jail on Tuesday, was arrested by Superintendent Harry Murray for furnishing liquor to a prisoner. The trial showed Fatviso brought the liquor into the jail but did not give it to anyone, and the court discharged him under the law which requires liquor to be given to a prisoner before an offense is committed.
Mrs Forrester Tuttle nee Alice Ballentine of Mobile died Wednesday morning in Birmingham after a brief illness. The remains will arrive this afternoon and the funeral will be Thursday from the home of her sister in law Mrs Leila Fitzpatrick at 256 North Conception Street. She is survived by a Mobile brother Samuel Ballentine and two Birmingham sisters Mesdemes Corinne Canning and Helen Taylor, a daughter Miss Helen Tuttle, and other relatives.
