Freighter Millinocket Safe After Fog Collision at Sea
The freighter Millinocket from Stockton Maine to New York arrived at Vineyard Haven Massachusetts in a sinking condition after colliding with the passenger steamer Persian in fog. The Millinocket struck amidships on the starboard side ripping plating to the waterline as water flooded the after hold. Pumps were kept running and the ship maneuvered toward port with stern sinking while forward bulkheads kept the bow afloat. The Persian disappeared into the fog with its fate unknown.
