Local Mobile automobile dealers announce a large show during Mardi Gras week. The event runs March 5 for at least seven days at the St Francis and Joachim site formerly Seifert Gower, with space for many exhibits and elaborate decorations planned.
Chief Van Liew assigns roller controlled duties to Detective G. P. Newbern on a Wednesday night. The department surprises him though he remains on the force and continues drawing monthly pay as the Demon Detective skates along to patrol and enforce the law.
The day in Congress began at noon with executive session on Nicaragua and Colombian treaties. Senator Hoke Smith offered an amendment to the military bill amid a hearing on the sisal industry and related investments.
The Automobile Club of Mobile organized with ninety five charter members at the Chamber of Commerce. L. G. Adams elected president F. E. Overall vice president Sidney Lowenstein treasurer M. O. Disher secretary and a five member board of governors named. Dues set at 3 dollars yearly with no initiation fee women autoists welcomed and voting limited to automobile owners or industry associates.
The Mobile Carnival Association asks Senators Bankhead and Underwood and Congressman Gray to secure a first class armored cruiser for Mobile's Mardi Gras. The executive committee met to urge Alabama's delegation to aid, raise funds, and promote group masking with prizes for individuals and school groups.
The Viator a Norwegian steamship long operated from Mobile under charter to the Chamelecon Steamship Co will now sail from New York under charter to the West Indies Steamship Co The rechartering followed a firm statement that the Chamelecon Co rechartered the Viator to the New York company Other business reasons were cited for the change Also the city printing contract for a prohibition ordinance was awarded to the Mobile Tribune by Mayor P J Lyons Who will print the ordinance the Tribune will not publish it in daily papers.
The joint wage conference of coal miners and operators adjourned at 3 o clock to reconvene in New York City next week. Western Pennsylvania operators resisted mine run demand. Ohio Indiana and Illinois showed willingness to settle.
Emmett A. Jones head of the immigration and market bureaus in Alabama will address the Chamber of Commerce Friday at 11 oclock. Jones will describe the Alabama land book in detail and urge Motilians to support it to keep their county in step with other agricultural districts of the state.

Observers see Erzerum as key to Asia Minor aiding Trebizond and threatening Turkish lines into Europe.
A girl's body was found in a wooded area near Lake Forest Illinois sparking a police case. Orpet a Wisconsin University student was arrested and said to have confessed an intimate relation and alleged plan to kill another, with disputed details emerging from the investigation.
The Mobile and Ohio Railroad reports January import export traffic through Mobile ports. Exports excluding lumber rose 22.5 percent from December and imports up 31 percent. Lumber exports to Latin America jumped 30.5 percent. The dock exports totaled about 15 000 carloads of twenty seven tons each.
Bridgeport Connecticut February 17 Farist Steel Company plant destroyed by fire late last night with losses over 450000. Origin unknown though residents heard a slight blast. The plant employed 5000 workers and supplied steel to Remington Arms. Two firemen were seriously injured by falling debris and hospitalized.
Fair tonight and Friday with light variable winds. Alabama and Mississippi forecast calls for calm to gentle winds and dry conditions through the period.
The article reports Senator Oscar W. Underwood and other Alabama lawmakers supporting a naval shipyard on the Gulf Coast. Underwood replies to rumors denying opposition and pledges help to secure the location at Mobile. Kenneth D. McKellar also communicates support and intent to push the project.
Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company favors Mobile as a port for ore from South and Central America. The bark Dora Lisboa from Brazil carrying about 1200 tons manganese ore was directed to Mobile. Cargo will move via Mobile and Ohio Railroad to Birmingham for delivery to the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company. This may signal growing ore traffic through Mobile.
Washington reports Lansing accepted the Lusitania settlement as it relates to the sinking but pressed Germany for assurances that armed liners will not be attacked without warning. Dispute over what counts as defensive armament and whether armed ships are immune remains unresolved.
