The Mobile Carnival Association secured a flotilla for Mardi Gras including two hydro aeroplanes from Pensacola, two gunboats Castine and Petrel, and two destroyers to convoy the aircraft. Officials expect large crowds as visitors arrive and extra bands and dancers will enhance the festivities.
Joseph Martinez a Mobilian and proprietor of the Independent Ice Company died after a brief illness at his home. A native of Zumaya Spain he came to Mobile to work as an inspector for the United States engineer and later left government service to start his own ice business.
Telegrams report an explosion at an ammunitions factory outside Stockholm resulting in five deaths and large ammo destruction. Other items note Oklahoma governor Wittene’s recent legislative advance, a federal receiver appointed for the Wabash railroad, Ohio Governor Willis’s heart troubles, Belle Beasley acquitted of murder, Southern Railway contracts, Greek General Doumanis's removal, Asquith approved food investment limits, and a counterfeiting roundup near Jonesboro Arkansas.
Twenty five of twenty six deputy sheriffs charged in murder after the Roosevelt plant shooting of nineteen strikers entered not guilty pleas. Each faced eighteen indictments including two for murder and several for assault. One deputy remained suspended.
Oakland, Feb 12. Jacob Vogel former president of the Citizens Bank of Fruitvale and his wife were found murdered in their home. Police say burglars beat them to death after trussing them with ropes and Mrs. Vogels apron strings.
Associated Press reports that Rodolfo Fierro was executed in San Antonio after an alleged attempt to kill General Francisco Villa during a Queretaro sortie. The consulate says Villa rebuked Fierro for a lost command, prompting the killing.
Norfolk dispatch reports the guard cutter Itasca towing the abandoned schooner Swain into Lynnhaven Roads after it was waterlogged in a severe storm. The vesseluboots and capsized, its anchors snagged on deck, and it was perilously in navigation. The Itasca stood ready to blow the schooner if tow was impossible.
Shipments of citrus from Florida exceed 20 000 carloads with estimates for the season between 25 660 and 30 000 carloads. Officials say this year’s crop will break all previous records.
The battleship North Dakota, returning from Guantanamo to Norfolk, must leave the fleet after turbine blade slippage. It marks the fourth recent injury to the ship, which is expected to reach Norfolk navy yard tomorrow.

Quincy Mass Feb 12 The submarine L-2 was launched at Fore River Shipbuilding yards. The craft is 170 feet long with a surface displacement of 450 tons and a contract speed of fourteen knots on the surface and eleven and a half knots submerged. It is the second of eight submarines authorized by Congress in 1912, L-1 having already been launched.
New York February 12 racing officials for 1915 were appointed at the Jockey Club monthly meeting. W B Vos was renamed as operator and the race dates were approved running from May 10 to May 19 inclusive.
Cloudy conditions expected tonight across Alabama and Mississippi with warmer temperatures tomorrow. Mississippi areas anticipate Saturday clouds and mild warmth.
County Treasurer George E. Stone of Mobile says the bill to abolish the county treasurer’s office will harm Mobile and other counties. The measure would move county funds to a designated bank after terms end, with no strong bond to cover illegal claims, and critics warn of reduced county representation and untested commission government. Davis Clary a labor superintendent from Campton Florida died Thursday night at a local infirmary. His wife and other relatives were with him. Body sent to Campton for interment.

The Alabama Supreme Court upheld lower court findings in the Theo Lacy case. Lacy, former chief clerk of the Alabama convict system, was convicted of embezzling $50,000 of state funds and received a ten year sentence. He appealed, and a related embezzlement indictment of $2,300 with a six year term is awaiting final action.
