President Ison signed the Glass-Owen currency reform Bill at 6:01 PM, reorganizing the nation’s banking system. The ceremony drew cabinet members and congressional committees amid strong unity from Democrats and bipartisan support, ending a long legislative drive on currency and tariffs.
Five firemen were seriously injured when a downtown store fire collapsed burning floors. Rescued by comrades after being buried in wreckage, each was given up for dead but survived. Loss estimated at $100, insured. Washington dispatch dated December 24.

Ottawa reports the Stefansson expedition scientists and crew aboard the Alaska and the Mary Sachs are safe. Dr. R. M. Anderson sent specimens to the Canadian Geological Survey and noted wintering at Collinson Point near Flaxman Islands. The Alaska left Nome July 19, reached Teller for overhaul, faced rough seas, and encountered the Mary Sachs on September 6.
In Chicago an alleged unlicensed practitioner Frank Klimek shot Charles Alling Jr and wounded P H Schwaba then killed himself. Klimek had faced a license prosecution by the state board of health represented by Alling and Schwaba. Alling survived a eye wound and was hospitalized while Schwaba was lightly wounded. Klimek faced a $200 fine and insulted poverty before the shooting.
In Vicksburg Mississippi on December 24 the defense lost a bid to dismiss the Hobbs bribery indictment. Governor Karl Brewer testified Hobbs admitted bribery and pleaded for help. Hobbs cried as Brewer described Bilbo the lieutenant governor and co defendant, and the state rested its case.
Charles Gayle Brown father of Cyrus B. Brown former Alabama attorney general died in Birmingham at 7 30 Wednesday morning after a long illness. The funeral will be held in Birmingham Thursday morning and the secretary of state's office closed all day. Brown was 69 and had served as solicitor in Perry and Jefferson counties.
Three young men delivering Christmas packages in Hamilton were killed when their wagon was struck by a Reading Express. The victims were Clifford Olt Milton Dilger and Dunkel all of Hamilton.

Missouri Supreme Court issued a decree of ouster against twenty wholesale lumber firms for price fixing and production limits. Fines total $436,000 and licenses of four non Missouri companies were revoked. The ruling cites illegal association price lists restricted output and territorial division among firms and dealers.

At its annual meeting, the Massachusetts Bar Association admitted Mrs. Mary A. Mahan, a Boston attorney, to membership, marking a historic precedent as the first woman known to be admitted in the state.
Admiral Robert Peary, famed for polar exploration, urges government support to establish a South Pole scientific station. He credits North Pole discovery and the Panama Canal with advancing the nation and says a southern station would multiply U.S. scientific achievements.

Representative Harrison of Mississippi joined the party to discuss isolation and quiet at Pass Christian where Wilson will vacation.
General Thomas Catchings of Vicksburg, ex-House member, warned that cotton producing states face a grim outlook with the boll weevil pest. He said Mississippi has suffered more than other states this year and that conquering the pest may be unlikely in states where cotton dominates.
Thieves operate in city neighborhoods during the holiday season with numerous highway robberies and burglaries. Early evening hours see many homes deserted as Christmas shoppers and revelers fill streets.
Last night several break in attempts occurred around Old Shell Road and Foote's Lane. Homes on South Ann street and Texas street showed forced entry or attempted entry with jewelry stolen at 254 South Ann. Multiple residences in Crichton and Luling reported attempted access and windows forced or skeleton keys used. An attempted hold up near 7 and 11 o'clock on Catherine is noted.
Misa Adelaide Brance, tied to Melville N. Couch, former Sullivan County district attorney, was freed from petty larceny charges after authorities found no link to Couch’s death. She remains in custody briefly to regain strength, destitute and unwilling to face the world, seeking burial beside Couch’s planned grave.
