Captain Peter Alba Pioneer Citizen Dies at 80 in Mobile
Captain Peter F. Alba retired capitalist and pioneer citizen died at 6 45 a m Thursday at 259 North Joachim in Mobile in the eightieth year after a two month illness. He fought Indians in the West with the Rangers and later served in the Confederacy before settling in Mobile with public leadership roles. Burial is Magnolia Cemetery after funeral from Dixon and McKay and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Bishop Allen presiding. He was born in Pensacola in 1835 and was survived by a granddaughter and several grandnieces.

Indictments charge Paul Koenig chief detective for Hamburg American Line and Richard Leyendecker an antique dealer with conspiring to dynamite the Welland Canal. Edmund Justice, a Hamburg American line watchman, also indicted for conspiring to obtain military information for Germany. Plan included securing factory access near the canal and targeting other Canadian plants. Justice allegedly traveled to Portland Maine Burlington Vermont and Quebec in September 1914 as part of the scheme. Maximum penalty cited is three years in prison and a $3000 fine.

Japanese liner Yasuka Maru sinks near Port Said
Reports from Port Said say the Yasuka Maru was sunk by a submarine on her way from London to Japan with 120 passengers and 160 crew. All aboard were saved by a French gunboat and landed at Port Said.
