Herbert Bryant was arraigned on stealing men's hose from S. H. Kress & Co. and sent to jail for ten days. Hattie Gardner was jailed ten days for affray. Will Hudson faced fines or jail for the same charge. Fred Van was fined one dollar or ten days for assault and battery.

New Rochelle New York December 23 posses search fields and woods of east Chester for the murderer of Charles Secord with no trail found early today. Secord a wealthy farmer was shot to death in his wagon the motive believed robbery and the assailant fled when a trolley car approached.
A Jasper blaze of unknown origin last night destroyed the Phillips Stanley general furnishing store with an estimated loss around 75000. The fire also caused serious damage to the offices above the building housing twenty lawyers, including United States Senator Bankhead and his son.

New York December 23. Governor Goethals of the Canal Zone asked for American warships to maintain neutrality and protect the canal. The request came from wireless and naval officials in the zone and was sent to Washington by Col. Goethals. He arrived in New York declaring the matter closed for him. He also noted that Herard slides in the canal caused trouble but kept the waterway open.
Colonel Goethals said naval officers reported two neutrality violations in the Canal Zone. One ship sailed without clearance papers, another used wireless radio. He declined to name vessels or officers and said he would seek Congress funding of 10 million dollars for drydocks and ship facilities.
A canal official warns the dredge must operate continuously for a year or more due to hillside slides at Culebra. He notes crews have improved ship passages beyond initial expectations, with ships moving through the canal more quickly than planned.

Clarence Gill was arrested by Officer A. M. Lau on a charge of assault against Mode Harris. A revolver was found on Gill during the search following the arrest.
