Prisoner Attends Sister's Funeral in Eufaula
Henry Baker a prisoner at Speigner's attended the funeral of his sister Mrs Lula Simmons in Eufaula on a dying request from Governor O Neal. Simmons had sought his pardon or parole for six years after he killed their father's slayer. Mike J. Niel a longtime Selma resident born in 1883 in Spring Hill Mobile county died at his nephew’s home on Lamar street Tuesday night after a stroke at noon he had visited an old friend earlier in the day. Rev Joseph Dunglinson conducted services at the family residence and burial followed in Live Oak cemetery with Camp Jones United Confederate Veterans escort. He served in the Confederacy and was captured at a major battle and imprisoned at Point Lookout New York before parole.

Wiggins Cannery Works Overtime For Cucumbers and Sweet Potatoes
Special to The Item from Gulfport Mississippi reports 26 000 bushels of cucumbers canned by the Wiggins plant. Since October 1 the factory runs day and night to process sweet potatoes at 500 bushels daily, with enough supply to continue through January 1. Potatoes were bought from local farmers on futures contracts at 40 cents per bushel, though only certain varieties qualify. Output ships as far as Minneapolis, while shortages hit national sweet potato yields due to spring rains. Additionally 36 carloads of crates were sent to Baldwin County Alabama for movement to Chicago and Pittsburgh merchants at 5 cents fob.
