Tornado Rips Through Mississippi Towns Killing and Wounding
A tornado swept Giles Mississippi about 25 miles north of Meridian killing two Black women and injuring several others. Buildings and timber were damaged as wires went down and communications failed. Cullum in Kemper County also reported damage and injuries. Quitman, 100 miles from Mobile, saw a powerful cyclone with all wires down and no deaths by 2 PM. The Mobile & Ohio line reported no railroad damage despite the downed wires in Meridian area.

Alphonse Zieman, arrested in September by Deputy Sheriff R H Puckett while coming into Mobile from Dog River with two wagon loads of whisky, was fined 50 dollars and costs by a jury Friday after noon for violating the prohibition law. The prior trial had resulted in a 250 dollar fine and costs by Judge Chamberlain in the inferior criminal court, but he appealed to the city court. The case against James Conway for violating the prohibition law was nol pressed. A B Etheridge, on the same charge, was on trial Friday afternoon.
