Unofficial dispatches report heavy clashes in Tampico with rebels pushing federal troops back into the city heart. Rebels reportedly gain Do Bascite area en route to the oil tanks and refinery while Arbol Grande falls under rebel control. federal officers remain praised for gallantry as war reports warn of ongoing engagements.
Reports from Rear Admiral Fletcher say fighting between rebels and federals continued near Tampico with insurgents taking control of the left riverbank from the river mouth to Tampico. Two thousand Federal troops reinforced Tampico as American and other foreign nationals seek safety aboard ships Chester and Tacoma amid fears of oil-tank fires.
The war department reports rebels retreated beyond federal guns at Tampico after futile attacks but that fighting may resume. Tampico suffered limited damage with several shells in the city. Officials estimate 6,900 to 8,000 rebels are facing Tampico, same forces that seized Victoria. In Coco, sixty miles west, federal troops repelled a brisk rebel engagement.

The check bore a Mobile bank stamp and was signed Adam Glass. Timberlake allegedly presented forged letters of recommendation from Augusta officials and bank presidents. He reportedly has prior Georgia prison time.

He is charged as a dangerous and suspicious character and is wanted in Florida. Police expect to prove Stone swindled people in Mobile while posing as Mobile representative of the company. Stone allegedly claimed to represent a large insurance company. Friends seek bond, but efforts have failed. He was seized after 4 pm.
