Washington Aug. 18 The Interstate Commerce Commission cut pig iron rates for Alabama and Tennessee furnaces sending carloads north of the Ohio. A new rate up to 35 cents per gross ton less. south of the river gains 23 cents, north 12 cents. Joint Birmingham Chicago rate set at 4 dollars with south of Ohio share 2.52. Effective Sept. 20 with through rates backdated to Oct. 1, 1914. Sloss-Sheffield Steel and Iron Company filed the complaint. Further Southern pig iron rates to trunk lines and New England territories to be decided later.
