New Yorks impeached governor Sulzer refuses to surrender his office as factions clash. Majority Leader Levy suffers a breakdown amid the political showdown denouncing Scalawags and calling for order in the crisis.
Lieutenant Governor Glynn, acting governor, demands Sulzer surrender the executive chamber, privy seal, and all related books and records. Sulzer refuses and proposes an agreed statement of facts to the courts to determine who is governor.
In Albany on August 15 the second day of the dual administration opened amid turmoil as a padlocked great seal and privy lock barred the executive chamber. Rival claimants to the governor's office continued to exercise functions, with control of the national guard and access to the state seal in dispute.
Mrs Lola Blair 28 dies in Crosby Minnesota after drinking four ounces of poison. She held her two babies as a towel covered her face and a deputy sheriff served a warrant for a statutory offense. Her husband is unnamed and the warrant was issued by Mrs William Guith.
The Washington August 15 report states Senator Clapp’s bill to prohibit congressmen from soliciting campaign funds from any political committee club or organization will be recommended for passage by the Senate selections committee. The bill stemmed from a probe by the committee chaired by Mr Clapp.
Commissioner S P Gaillard urges automobile owners to attend a Saturday demonstration in Irvington to show support for county and local road development. The Irvington area plans to display progress toward turning piney woods into a prosperous farming center with a surprise in store for attendees.

Meanwhile Governor O Neal is urged to call a special session to authorize the appointment power. House leader Underwood weighs a bid for the 1914 Senate term.

A severe electrical storm with a sixty mile gale swept Manitoba from Brandon to the eastern boundary early today causing extensive damage. Harvesting was just starting and grain losses are not yet estimable. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage reported.
A severe electric storm swept eastern Wisconsin on August 15 causing about ten to twenty seven houses to be struck by lightning across cities including MiewaKee and Oshkosh. Officials estimate losses run into thousands of dollars as the storm raged.

Seven striking girl shirt-makers were arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace outside a clothing factory in St Louis. They said a policeman threatened they would be tortured and have their tongues cut out, likening their fate to Russia.
The British parliament was prorogued today and will not reconvene until February next year unless something extraordinary occurs. The king's speech, as read in the House of Lords, was colorless.

Detachments of federal troops moved against Zapata followers near Milpa Alta and rebels near Texcoco and Otumba. Enrique Corostieta sworn in as minister of finance succeeding Toribio Esquivel Obregon.
Senator Penrose introduced resolutions on the Mexican situation amid a bitter Dem−Rep debate. The election committee favored Clapp’s bill to bar senators and representatives from soliciting campaign funds. Towner proposed authorizing the president to mediate with Argentina and Brazil over Mexico. Anti suffragists heard by Rules Committee chairman Henry with a December hearing promised. Adjourned at 12 25 p m until noon.
In Atlanta on August 15 the Leo M. Frank murder trial advanced with rapid testimony as both sides streamlined witnesses. Defense character witnesses testified and more minor witnesses followed, with Frank expected to address the jury later this afternoon.

In Nanaimo August 156 there was no loss of life during recent rioting. One man lost an arm to dynamite thrown through a window but survives. Widespread window smashing and minor destruction at coal camps occurred, yet overall property loss remains small. Negotiations to settle the strike are in progress.
A stranger entered the New York State National Bank in Albany on August 15 and, thrusting an arm through a teller window, grabbed 879 dollars and fled into State Street, vanishing before an alarm could be raised.
