Attempt to Pass Forged Checks Leads to Arrest
Harry Murray alias Harry Readen, a 33 year old white man from Birmingham, Alabama, was booked by Officer Jeff Pierce on a charge of dangerous and suspicious for forging two checks for $3.85 each bearing the name C Connors. He admitted passing a check on Wednesday and returned money under threats of jail. Murray had been staying at 106 St Anthony Street. Police say a man matching his description tried to pass another check on First National Bank in Birmingham signed by L G Adams of Adams Machinery Co. Adams has no account there. Murray’s room contained torn checks with different signatures including Harry Readen. Chief Van Liew suspects Murray may be wanted in other cities. Murray said he had been in New Orleans and that his wife was in Birmingham.
