Italian war office reports Gorizia taken with 10,000 Austrians captured. Italians crossed the Isonzo near Gorizia and secured the western heights as cavalry pursue retreating Austrian forces. French repelled German assaults along the Somme in heavy fighting.

Greensboro North Carolina August 9 E O Bishop of Luverne Alabama prominent banker drowned in a bath tub of a local sanitarium. Officials say he was despondent and the death is ruled as death by own action.

The state harbor board will depart Mobile Thursday morning aboard the coast guard cutter Tallapoosa for a two day trip along the harbor to the outer bar and Dauphin Island. They depart the Tallapoosa early Friday and proceed by tender to Dauphin Island.
Washington August 9 1916 immigration bureau reports the total population increase from immigration for the year ending June 30 was 169 061. Aliens arriving numbered 366 748 with 298 826 immigrants and 62 922 non emigrants. Nonimmigrants totaled 240 807 with 129 765 immigrants and 111 042 non emigrants who plan to return.

London reports seven to ten German airships raided the east coast of England and the southeast coast of Scotland early today. About 160 bombs were dropped with twenty three killed and no military damage reported. anti aircraft guns engaged raiders and drove them off.
Burglary charges against Louis Dees and Lyman Dees were nolle pressed in the inferior criminal court Wednesday. Complainant William Coursey of Pierce Alabama failed to establish a case against the two young men.
The Central Relief Committee of the Chamber of Commerce reports total receipts of 4359.44 with expenditures of 2027.21 leaving 2332.23, not including outstanding obligations. The committee will disband August 19 and storm relief applications are due by August 15. A $200 aid fund for Baldwin county storm Sufferers was approved, to be distributed by committees named by President Bailey.
George Williams was fined $25 or fifty days in jail after he beat his sixteen year old daughter with a stick. The charge was disorderly conduct and he must serve the term in the city prison if the fine is not paid.
The House approved the conference report on the army appropriation bill totaling 267,557,000 dollars. The measure had passed the Senate and was ready for President Wilson's signature.
