The group aims to keep Mobile in step with Meridan and Montgomery which already have concerts. The cost is $1,600 to bring the orchestra. with $1,000 secured, the contract would be signed and the performances set. People can help by calling Secretary Carjel at Belle 992 to pledge tickets.
A Sunday morning explosion at the American Laundry on Franklin and St Louis streets blew open the safe, with nitro glycerine used and a small booty seized. The blast was heard as train No 27 passed North Mobile, the robbery found at about 8 am, detectives searched for clues and no arrests by Monday.
Sisal imports climb as three local schooners are chartered to haul sisal from Yucatan to Mobile. The Ward Line Nepos returns with a third sisal cargo and more steamers will join the trans port. Captains Murphy and Scott have vessels chartered to load sisal at Progreso for Mobile amid rising freight rates.
Detectives led by Night Lieutenant R L Dorion raid the 202 1-2 Conti street rooming house operated by F Mims Harris shortly before midnight Saturday. Five people including Harris and four women are arrested for violation of the prohibition law. whisky and beer are seized. Harris to have a hearing April 25. the women to be arraigned Tuesday.

The Russian bark Imperator carrying Gulfport Mississippi passengers was fired on without warning by an Austrian submarine near the Calumbrede Islands on April 11. Gustav Olson of Fort Warren Boston was wounded and hospitalized in Barcelona with shrapnel injuries. Aner Swannsson also aboard, with a Minneapolis furniture factory foreman as a brother. The State Department cited the Barcelona consul for the report.
The Mobile Chamber of Commerce will ask the Alabama Railroad Commission to compel the Louisville and Nashville Railroad to set crosstie rates to Mobile equal to lumber rates. Secretary B R G Cobb said the freight traffic committee will act at once, with Birmingham backing the effort and Pensacola appealing a reduction sought by Birmingham. The committee plans to take up the case soon and join Birmingham in the plea to the state railroad commission.
