In Philadelphia Ohio Florence Damey aged seventeen allegedly eloped from 5 East Clarfield Street for the fourth time. Reports say she wed as Florence Dam ey ages seventeen and had been fourteen at her first elopement. Detectives have been asked to locate the girl and a man named as her elopement partner by Mr McKinsey.
The Central Trust Co of New York sues in federal court seeking a receiver for all Cleveland streetcar lines including three cent and five cent fares. It claims bonds totaling over a million dollars are at risk and current management is failing to arrange principal or interest payments. A hearing on receivership is set for Monday.
Lorain report of Oct 2 recounts Democrat Judson Harmon accusing Attorney General Ellis of dodging graft questions. Harmen says state deposits yielded higher returns at allied banks, while banks tied to officials paid less, and criticizes the governor’s circle for conflicts of interest and failure to disclose owned stock.
Bryan Oct 28 reports Williams county joins the drys with a 1622 majority under county cotton election. Drys carried all but one precinct except Limes Township where wets prevailed by 88 votes 85 for dry 397 wet. Six saloons remaining in the county. Stryker wets won by 30 and Springfield Township carried by 27. Montpelier voted dry despite six saloons. Montpelier at the junction of the Ohio and St. Lovly branches of the Wabash. Nineteen saloons voted out in Hosinges. Halm Brewing company continues. Continue on page six.
