In Cleveland on November 26 Chay Freund, a North Dakota ranchman, and Cole, a downtown saloonkeeper, exchanged shots over a dispute. Freund was killed after firing a cartridge inside the saloon, while Cole was captured later. Joe Cote leads authorities in the case.
Perth Amboy N J reports martial law after a deadly deputy firing at Keeshbay plant. Seven workers wounded, three fatally, as National Guard troops quell rioting following a strike at Perth Amboy Pirebrick Co. and nearby clay works. Widespread fears of further attacks, with troops stationed and food deliveries organized.
Wages rise to 1.60 a day from 1.25 as seven hundred strikers flood the streets. Deputies guard the International Mire Proofing plant amid volleys of stones, revolvers, and improvised weapons.
