Connellsville Pennsylvania May 20 A Royal Blue observation parlor car plunged over an embankment near Garret injuring many as physicians rushed to the scene. By May 29 reports list twenty injuries with three probably fatally hurt though no fatalities confirmed.
Steubenville, O May 29 Seven prisoners overpowered Sheriff Vorhees and forced his head under a cell door then escaped into the street crossing the Ohio river bridge and vanishing among the hills. Jailed accomplice Jon Egger remained jailed. Fred Ely later captured in Steubenville. Police said two arrests reported at Dennison. others still at large in West Virginia.
Chicago, May 29. James A Patten, famed Chicago broker, dominates the corn corner as prices peak and shorts pay tribute. He holds 16 million bushels, with 11 million fletcher or festooned, and profit estimates reach about 4.025 million as market forces and growers brace for normal conditions. Patten began with a fifty five cent average, closing near 82 1/2 cents as speculation lingers and expectations shift.
No 2 red wheat futures quoted near one dollar while May futures rose nine and three quarters cents. Patten brand by Conight reportedly will have taken in and paid fifteen million bushels for May corn contracts. Armour, among the heavier shorts, delivered most of this, while the Paltha Interest has already sold a large portion of the grain, with experts predicting easy disposal of the remainder.
The jury in the Snell will case finds Colonel Thomas Snell insane when he made the will leaving Richard Snell half of the estate valued at about 1.5 million dollars. The trial followed by passionate letters from women who received large sums from Snell.
Three trainmen were swept to death when a dam broke at Port Arthur last night. A freight train plunged into the river and the city power station was completely flooded, causing about half a million dollars in damage.

Albany May 20. Harry Thaw will be railed to Matteawan state hospital and not transferred to another state insane asylum. Dr Albert W Ferris, chairman of the lunacy commission, says the state commission oversees the hospitals for the criminal insane and consent is needed for any transfer. If habeas corpus fails, efforts aim to move him to a different hospital, with director Hervit believing Thaw’s case is incurable and unpredictable.
Chicago reports indicate multiple buildings struck by lightning and about twenty five injuries. Across Iowa Kansas Missouri Nebraska and Illinois crops and farmhouses damaged. In Topeka Kansas one person killed and seven hurt in a cyclone.
Campbell, a bicycle rider from Alliance, was severely injured during a test ride at an exhibit in Sebring when a faulty wheel caused him to leap a gap and crash against the decline. He suffered multiple arm fractures and serious chest and body injuries. doctors say recovery is expected but uncertain.

Washington May 2 Final vote on the currency bill in the senate and the adjournment of congress may be delayed until next week. Obstruction tactics against the cur rent measure were renewed today with Senator Stone Missouri vowing to aid Senator La Follette in talking the bill to death. Senator Gore Oklahoma promised assistance as La Follette began his filibuster and Culberson Democratic leader attacked the bill in a long speech.
An anonymous letter written in blood and wrapped in crepe arrived in Chicago on May 29 threatening Father Peter J. O’Callaghan of the Pauliat order and Attorney Fran con Hinckley with death. It also threatened dynamite strikes on St Mary’s Catholic church, tied to efforts to obtain a pardon for Herman Billek who faces hanging June 12 for the murder of six Vexus family members.
A southbound Cleveland Akron and Columbus passenger train struck a misplaced switch in Mt Vernon Ohio yards. The wreck sent the train into a siding and into several wind cars. Engineer William Arreo of Akron was buried beneath wreckage and fatally injured. Several passengers sustained injuries, none serious.
The Ohio Supreme Court refused to allow a mandamus filing against State Auditor Guilbert as a probe into the $35,000 special appropriation's use progresses. Justices ruled dissolving the Hamilton county temporary injunction now would be unfair, delaying review until September and likely before elections. The case, led by Ben F. Gayman and others, remains tied to pending circuit decisions in Cincinnati.
A late Thursday storm from Sandusky Ohio caused heavy property damage and fears six fishermen were drowned in the bay. High waves, damaged roofs on Water Street, and fire damage to several storefronts followed, with notable losses at Bender building, Kelley’s store, Wells Fargo office, and others.
