Mrs Imora Volckwein an eighties woman was abducted by four men in a big black automobile near the Volckwein bridge. She was found to have withdrawn $60 000 and held by a New York lawyer who asked for 10000 to reveal her whereabouts. Police investigate motive and custody with family members in dispute.
Ripley O June 26 Mia W Took 4 Of Red Cirk near Ripley Wed yesterday. She is mother of Walter Hook whose home was shot up by night riders May 24. Authorities note the distress over that outrage may have hastened her death.
Calcutta reports a deadly railway collision near Bombay Garoday line. Upwards of thirty people burned in the wreck, eight cars smashed, and many more injured. European passengers among the casualties, with rescue operations underway as officials assess the tally.

Washington June 24. The latest diplomatic note suggests no need for a Venezuelan invasion as officials indicate no intent to remove American consular officers.
