Chicago detectives investigate the headless, almost nude woman found in Lake Michigan. The body likely washed ashore after two months, with a missing head and several jaw teeth gone. He cites Regular and special reports noting fewer desertions fines and court-martial sentences when the canteen operated. Washington Jan 21 Senate heard Senator Aldrich receive a note from Secretary Cortelyou explaining the delay in replying to the regulation calling for information on the Panama canal bond issue. Cortelyou said he would have the complete report ready early next week and that the matter is too important to rush. The senate passed a Tillman resolution seeking detailed data on insolvent banks and receiverships since 1898, including capital stock, names of receivers, attorneys, creditors and shareholders.
