Bovertown Pa January 16 coroner issued sixty death certificates indicating identified dead from the theatre fire horror remains of charred bones and skulls. Funeral services began today as delays in identification prompt orders to bury all dead by Monday with unidentified remains to be interred then.
London reports alarm over Japan's future as British officials warn of a political crisis and possible bankruptcy if the war debt remains unpaid. They say Japan cannot sustain heavy taxation while discussing possible war against the United States, labeling such talk ridiculous.
A New York Globe report unveils a man offering to stand in for Harry K. Thaw during his trial for Stanford White’s murder. The unnamed applicant, rich and willing to endure prison or death, presents photos resembling Thaw and offers 1,000,000 for the swap to secure his loved ones’ luxury and care.

In Gary Indiana two men were killed and three wounded in a night battle near the swamp when police attempted to serve warrants on Bervian laborers. One slain officer among the dead. two laborers fatally wounded and others injured.
Chicago police detective Curran fatally shot 15 year old Frank Felzenhaner after the youth aimed a revolver at him while seen struggling with two men near Felzenhaner’s home. The incident occurred early today as Curran confronted the group.
In New York on January 16, Mrs. Mary McClure wife of Louis McClure of 456 West 25th Street drowned herself in a bath tub half full of water. Her husband battered down the door and found her, tried to render first aid as an ambulance approached.
The jury to try Fen Mickerson for murder was finally selected at noon. It is expected the panel will be taken to Coshocton to view the crime scene before proceedings begin.
In St Louis on January 16, the bones of Mrs. Camile Jacobs aged 80 and her children Edwin 7 and Samuel 18 months were found dead in their home. Mrs Jacobs gave the children prussic acid and then killed herself with the same poison. She had been despondent over a servant attack claimed to have caused a cancerous growth in her first born, an incurable condition.
