Williams was trapped near a canal bed north of Chillicothe after a nightlong search. he was surrounded as he attempted to flee with the children and surrendered when ordered to raise his hands. The children Mamie Belva Hillary aged 10 to 11 were in his custody, Williams claimed he took them to protect them from an institution. he admitted firing the fatal shot from about three feet away as Swiger sat in a chair. Moonshine was found in the house. Williams’ wife left him eight years earlier. Burial arrangements for the victim’s remains were set for Ashley, W. VA.
