Paris August 1 Wilbur Wrights aeroplane experiments halted by a broken pinion after a sharp turn to avoid a doe. Left wing damaged minor injuries to the machine operator Wright unhurt and hopes to resume flight within days. The craft had reached about forty miles an hour that evening.
The Thaw bankruptcy case may be moved from New York to Pittsburgh to test Thaw’s sanity in federal court. Creditors may force a hearing on his mental condition, with a possible ruling by the U S district court on whether he can proceed as a bankrupt. If insanity is upheld, the case could shift again to New York.
A woman's head, likely 30 to 40, was found floating near Cleveland's East Breakwater by workers on a breakwater project. Detectives and Coroner Bucke investigated a severing injury, with signs pointing to murder. The head, well preserved, was taken to the county morgue for identification.

Baltimore August 1 The Methodist Episcopal Church has begun a campaign to elect a Speaker who will allow Congress to vote on an interstate liquor shipment bill. The shipment bill would let liquor shipped from one state to another be regulated by the destination state laws, not prohibition.
