A cyclone in Alexandria Louisiana caused extensive ruin with many homes and businesses damaged. Nine bodies recovered and thirteen injured transported to hospitals as the town suffered massive destruction. A larger Texas and Pacific railroad report notes twenty killed and about one hundred injured in related events.
Washington April 5 The clash in party ranks widens as Taft supporters claim Foraker and Dick oppose Roosevelt while Heany’s Ohio allies rally behind the president. Roosevelt aides say the lawmakers will be forced to choose sides amid the nomination battles.
Documentary evidence of a conspiracy by reactionary groups backed by court influence to dissolve the lower house of parliament was detailed in the Reich. The circular signed by monarchist leaders ordered Loyalist demonstrations if dissolution occurred and traced back to orders from the league headquarters in St Petersburg.
In Belmont County the United Mine Workers union at Eye Station expelled twelve men identified as anarchists. The lead body of Mrs. August Ruck, wife of a well known local businessman, was found by her daughter in the rain water tank in the attic. Armed men accompanied the strike breakers and fired on the rioters. one deputy was injured and a wounded man died.

Pittsburg reports Andrew Carnegie will attend the April 11 dedicatory ceremony for the Carnegie Institute. A reliable rumor says he will gift at least 15 million dollars to Pittsburg’s Carnegie Institute endowment, Carnegie Library, and Carnegie Technical Schools. Local bickering over library funding and city finances influenced his decision amid disputes among trustees and city officials.
Washington reports that the government will accept a proposition to reclaim coal lands in Wyoming. Commissioner Ballinger states only lands taken by Union Pacific under surveyor general privileges will be returned. Scrip mineral lands remain disputed and may be challenged if underlaid with coal.
