The Lemmon band traveled to Reeder on Saturday for their first out of town engagement at the Farmer's Club meeting. The performance pleased local residents, earning compliments and praise for their talent. The band reported appreciation for the hospitality shown in Reeder.
Redfield S D June 20 South Dakota National Guard units prepare for the annual encampment to be held July 6 to 17 in Redfield. Companies from Pierre Sioux Falls Madison Howard Yankton Canton Aberdeen and other towns join a special train plan over the Milwaukee line with a band and hospital unit among arrangements. The site north of Redfield along the Milwaukee road is chosen for its proximity and easy access.
Stowers hosts one of the region’s largest gatherings with 40000 to 50000 in attendance. Hettinger and Lemmon delegations arrive by car, a Hettinger baseball win 8 to 4, and Mr. Jacobsen of Mott delivers an instructive address. Entertainment includes the Hettinger band and Lemmon male quartet with horse and foot races followed by dancing until morning.
A moral verse argues that true patriotism relies on virtue not pomp or wealth. It claims faith in the ideals set by ancestors, not loud displays or material riches, will keep the nation strong and its star bright.
Mr and Mrs Homes visit Mr and Mrs Mareh. Homes milking twelve cows and selling cream at the local station. Mrs Homes rising a large flock of carrier chickens and cultivating flowers including California poppies raised from seed in California. Local climate praised for alfalfa and poppies.
The Lemmon Giants played Morristown area jugglers and reservation teams in a mixed lineup wearing McIntosh uniforms. The Giants were pressed early but quickly surged ahead as fans watched a delayed innings due to a brief shower.
