Pork production contest invites North Dakota youth

The North Dakota Development League announces a pork production contest for state boys and girls in Adams County. Entries must be single sow litters with specific weight and age rules, due by certain dates, and contestants may not enter other league contests. Address Thos Cooper, Secretary, N D Development League, Grand Forks. Mrs. W G Hoisington traveled to Minneapolis for illness treatment after a midnight Aberdeen trip, forced to exit the train in a stormy, cold yard near a water tank, with the sleeper attendant misthinking the stop.

Teacher's Examination Dates Set for February 11 and 14

The next regular teacher's examination will be held Thursday and Friday February 11th and 14th at the Court House in Hettinger. Rose C. Wagner, County Supt of Schools, Adams County, N. Dak.

Expert Patterson Will Visit Lemmon

The Aberdeen Better Farming Association will host R F Patterson a Brown county expert to speak Monday February 10 at Lemmon club rooms. He will discuss farming improvements in the semi arid Northwest and outline forming a broader Better Farming association. A county road improvement push with cash basis funding is also urged.

Perkins County Good Roads Association Formed at Meeting

A large group from DeWitt Flat Creek and White Butte townships attended a Perkins County Good Roads Association gathering at the Commercial Club to organize a permanent body. F A Finch led the session focusing on routing the Twin City Aberdeen Yellowstone Park trail through Perkins County and broad aims to educate the public and advocate for better highway laws.

How I Raised My Prize Corn by Lee H Thayer

Lee H Thayer of Spring Butte North Dakota recounts entering a corn contest in 1912. He details planting dates May 10, harvest, frost, snow, and the eventual prizes, including first prize and second prize in the North Dakota corn show with a red ribbon. He notes he was age 14 and that Miss Wagner notified teachers to recruit contestants.

County Superintendent Rose Wagner reports Adams County won first place in a corn contest belt last week. A prize check for ten dollars was issued and the corn will be sent to Fargo next month. The prize will be available at her office around early February.

Fifth annual fire laddies ball at Armory opera house

A cold wave left Devils Lake at 34 below and Duluth at 24 below as Chicago endured a frigid night. Friday evening the fire laddies hosted their fifth annual ball at the Armory opera house with good attendance and the men feeling appreciated.
