John Guemple spoke at Robert E. Lee high school about vocational nursing and at Highlands Rotary on future of technical education. University of Houston drama opens May 17 to 19 with free Lee College tickets for students and teachers. Terry Bone wins Yarmouth Summer Theater apprenticeship in Cape Cod with actor's equity credit. Henry Austin to study economics at University of Colorado in Denver. Laurence Kline of UPenn to lecture at Lee College. Austin hopes to take courses. Glorietta Allison sang a recital at Lee College with Mozart Schubert Rachmaninoff Dunhill. Thomas Stone accompanied. Dorris Hopewell Harrop to open New York show May 24. previously exhibited in Baytown, Houston, Galveston. taught at Lee College. Guy Johnson participated in David Herbet gallery group show and a Louisana gallery one-man show. Lee College faculty performed in a Memorial Baptist Church cantata. Thomas Stone, John Guemple, and Charles Stephenson performed. Faculty Women’s Club elected officers. Sophomore gift to college a Muzac stereo system for new student lounge. Lounger will feature Muzac speakers around. Inquiries about Lee College students who attended the Confederate Ball noted by Mrs. Doug Benton. Houston Yacht Club praised Lee College students as well mannered and sophisticated. Freshmen class preparing a reception after graduation.

Niell receives NSF grant for Rutgers summer study

Miss Florence Niell Lee College mathematics instructor again secures a National Science Foundation grant to study mathematics at Rutgers State University New Brunswick New Jersey for eight weeks from June 24 to August 17. The program targets junior college teachers of mathematics and follows her prior NSF grant in 1960 for study at Iowa State University Ames Iowa. Niell is also a seamstress and a Vogue pattern contest entrant with wins in local and district rounds and a San Antonio state level appearance.

Notice states graduates will practice at 6 30 tonight in the Lee College Auditorium. The sewing category is among the four judged at the state contest and each contestant will model her own garment.

Curtain Club Stages Ghosts in Smooth Ibsen Production

The Lee College Curtain Club presented Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts on May 4 and 5 to a small, receptive audience. Ruth Deason starred as Mrs. Alving with Rhoda Jean Buckner as Regina. Joe Allen portrayed Pastor Manders, Mike Amoretti played Engstrand, and Mike Madison leveled Oswald with convincing inward depth. A striking set and lighting heightened the production under Mrs. David L. Norton.

Dr Charles Allen minister of President George H Gentry will speak at Lee College commencement at 7 p m May 25 in the auditorium The program opens with War March of the Priests by Thomas Stone Ivocation by Michael Lawless Lee College choir directed by Charles Stephenson will sing In God Will I Confide Almighty and Everlasting God My God Accept My Heart Diplomas will be awarded and many scholarships and awards announced including Wall Street Journal BEA B&PW Rotary top graduates and Hall of Fame inductees List of graduates runs long with many names and a Benediction and recessional to close the service

Baytown Opens Half Million Dollar Library and Pool Annex

Baytown residents tour Lee College’s new library and swimming pool annex unveiled April 1. The indoor pool measures 42 by 75 feet with six seven foot lanes, depths from 3 to 12 feet, and two diving boards. A diatomaceous earth filtering system handles all water four to six hours. pool capacity is 145000 gallons and seating for 250 on a balcony. The annex includes two handball courts, weight and trampoline area, dressing rooms, coach offices, and a first aid room. Designer Lowell Lammers led the project funded by a bond issue approved by Baytown voters in October 1959.
