Hicks and Knox Crowned King and Queen at Confederate Ball

Don Hicks and Sandra Knox were crowned King and Queen of Lee College at the Confederate Ball held in the Sylvan Beach Pavilion. The event featured throne decor, ivy and roses, and bay area high schools sent dukes and duchesses with Manny Green and his orchestra providing music.

Teacher Awards Ceremony Set At Lee College

Lee College employees will receive pins for five or more years of service during a May 15 ceremony in the auditorium. President George Gentry and trustees will attend. Alumni representative Fletcher Hickerson to attend. Recipients include Dean Walter Rundell, Charles Bonner, George Nelson for twenty-five years, Mrs. Lynn O Hagan for twenty years, Alvin H. Miles, Charles L. Hobbs for fifteen, and ten-year pins to Ruby Barham Gladys Ellis Dr John Ellis Alton Laird Florence Niell. Five-year pins go to Dr Henry Bergolofsky Bertam Brehm Joe Gilliland Peggy Haskel Wallace Heaner Guy Holman Milton Johnson Mrs Mattie Howard Elizabeth Meeks Clarence Schultz Bob Williamson Fareen Lerch Jenny Richards. A post ceremony reception in the cafeteria follows. Miss Haskel chairs the arrangements committee. Service pins cover five-year periods with occasional additional awards.

New College Catalogs Near Printing for May Distribution

Lantern Flashes reports new college catalogs at the printer with expected distribution by end of May. Revisions include course content and school policies. Wayne Gregory, business administration instructor, assisted in counting Baytown residents for the recent census.

Picnic Postponed by School Committee

Buddy Boudloche, committee chair, announced the all-school picnic is postponed. A suitable location will be unavailable until after final exams, so the event is tentatively rescheduled for the first day following exams.

Green Grow The Lilacs Opening Friday Night

Curtain Club and the music department present Green Grow The Lilacs. The Oklahoma musical features Jeter Fry as a vengeful admirer and Laurey Williams played by Delores Clark. Directed by Mrs. David L. Norton with Charles Stephenson in charge of music and six of his compositions included.

MacBlain to Wed Pepper at Trinity Baytown

Frances Tizzie MacBlain will marry Oscar Pepper Saturday at 5 p m in Trinity Episcopal Church Baytown. Dr David Norton will tour Guatemala rural schools this summer as consultant to the director general of the rural education program. Norton will assess the adult literacy program June 14 to July 12.

College Teachers Institute Grants For Lee College Staff

Maystorovich Niels and Lee College instructors receive National Science Foundation grants to attend institutes. Maystorovich at Michigan State University East Lansing June 20 to Sept 2 for science teaching. Niell at Iowa State Ames June 15 to July 26 for mathematics. Price at University of Oklahoma Norman June 6 to July 29 for animal behavior research.

Geology Students Attend Baylor Field Conference in Waco

Texas geology students from Lee College joined Baylor University and others April 21 to 23 for a Baylor Geological Society field conference. The event featured fossil finds from the North Bosque River area, exposures at Bosque terraces and Balcones fault, and a Cloke shale outcrop with flagstones. A banquet formed plans for an annual field trip, with next year set for the Arbuckle Mountains.
