Lantern Flashes Dr Ellis of Lee College will deliver a ten lecture series on economics to Lubrizol supervisors and administrators. Seventy nine graduates are planned for June ceremonies, up from 112 last year with 143 projected graduates.
Dr. Jesse Kirkpatrick leads Baytown and West Baytown Kiwanis to charter a Circle K club at Lee College SC. Fifteen members needed for charter with first forming meeting held last Friday. Interested students urged to join March 25 in Main Building room 115. good character and satisfactory grades required.
The Rebel, shown above, will arrive shortly after the first of May bringing the 1960 Lee Log. Copy is with the printer and staff await publication date. The Reb is the yearbook theme featuring an enlarged campus favorites section and a surprise faculty dedication.
Rumors spread among students about an April 1 event at Lee College involving strangers and a mysterious publication titled Grant's Candle. The chatter asks what the publication might be and what the visitors intend.
Mr and Mrs S J Carpenter celebrate the birth of a baby boy named Steven William. The newborn weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and arrived on March 5.
Western Week culminates with a Knights of Columbus Hall dance from 8 to 11 p.m. featuring Walter Brown and his Rebel Rousers as beard contest winners are announced. Hayride starts at 7 p.m. from the LC parking lot to McCullum Park, and a barbecue plate is served 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets vary by event.
Lee College's Zeta Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa held its March 13 initiation in the LC cafeteria with Dean Walter Rundell as guest speaker. New initiates include Harold Best and 20 others. membership requires at least a B average, 15 credit hours across three fields, and continued enrollment.
Applications for the April 28 1960 College Qualification Test are now available at Selective Service local boards nationwide. Eligible students planning to take the test should apply promptly to the nearest local board for an application and information bulletin. Fill out the form and mail it immediately in the provided envelope.
A 4-H group held a cake sale last Saturday to raise funds for sending members to the state convention in April. Kay Clark and Larry Kelley served as co chairmen, and at the last meeting Linda Smith was elected reporter of the organization.
Mattie Howard, Lee College librarian, blends family, civic service, and books in Baytown. She earned a BA from the University of Texas and B S in Library Science, has taught at several schools, and leads library planning with local officials. Her hobbies include sewing gardening cooking and reading.
