Summer Term Set To Begin June 2 At LJC

Dean Rundell releases summer school information for LJC pending school board approval. First six week term runs June 2 to July 12 evenings 5 to 9 30 with courses including B A 307 308 2 1 18 Math 301 304 310 English la 12a History 15a Government 10a Physics 801a. Second term July 14 to August 22 offers second halves. Registration 20 plus 5 deposit. Veterans urged to use GI Bill credits. Students urged to submit enrollment questionnaire by April 11.

Shorthand Awards Made To Students

Seventy five LJC and high school shorthand students qualified for certificates in the January contest of the Order of Gregg Artists. Sixty senior and 15 junior OGA certificates were awarded entitling holders to buy pearl OGA pins. Betty Joyce Hopper won the gold OGA pin in the senior division. Johnny Lou Sprayberry won the junior award. Qualified seniors included Sue Stern and many others. juniors included Mary Helen MecMurrough and Jane Bullock among others.

Stuart Attends SHSTC Spring Festival Coronation Event

SHSTC hosted a spring festival featuring the coronation of Queen Naelyn Oden and King Richard Jones. Duchess Johnell Stuart of LJC attended with escort James Ellis and participated in rehearsals and a downtown dinner at Cafe Raven Huntsville. Royal guests included duchesses from five Tri-Cities schools.

TSTA Convention Held In Galveston

The Southeast Division of the Texas State Teachers Association met in Galveston from March 13 to 15 with the theme Education for a New Era. E G Doudna of Madison Wisconsin spoke on Personnel Problems in American Education and R H Rowland of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association spoke on Looking Ahead in Elementary Education.

A WMU student denied entry due to full classrooms used a folding chair workaround to gain access. His simple device and resolve led to the ban being lifted and he now carries his own chair to class.

Rehearsals for School for Scandal at LJC Curtain Club

As part of Fine Arts Week the LJC Curtain Club will present Richard Sheridan's School for Scandal on April 1 at 8 15 in the high school auditorium. Mrs Lynn O Hagan directs the three act play with a full cast headed by Sir Peter Teazel and Lady Sneerwell among others. Students with activity cards admitted free.

Proxy Dean To Attend Junior College Meeting

Dean Walter Rundell and G H Gentry Superintendent of Schools will attend the Texas Junior College Association meeting in Dallas on April 1. The theme is A Welcome and a Helping Hand to New Junior Colleges in Texas with UT’s C C Calvert speaking on Looking Toward the Future in Junior College Education and J P Bogue discussing What Is a Good Junior College. A question box by J E Gray of Lamar Junior College and music by Hockaway Junior College are also on the program.

Art Exhibition Opens During Fine Arts Week at LJC Library

Students from LJC display finished art projects in the library from March 31 to April 2 guided by Minnie Alice Robertson. A musical program in the auditorium on April 2 at 6:00 closes the week with student participation and performances by Lou and Joy Fuller Linda Witten Mike Oviedo and a student quartet. Intra-Mural trophies will be presented by Mr Bale during the assembly.

Sacs Gamma Plan Formal April 12

The Sigma Alpha Chi and Gamma Phi Kappa sororities met March 2 to plan a spring formal scheduled for April 12. Sponsors Mrs. C E Steward and Miss Ruby Barham announced committees for arrangements including decorations, tickets, finance, food, publicity, floor show, and wrap services led by named members.

Library Receives Bound Magazines for Student Use

The library confirms bound magazines arrived from the bindery last summer and are ready for patron use. Titles include Life Times Science Newsletters and Newsweek through June 1946, with July to December 1946 issues to be shipped within 30 days. Worn books will also be sent to the bindery.
