Dates show events from March 29 to April 27. Includes Kollege Kapers at 8:00 p.m., mid semester registrar reports, a drama department play My Three Angels, Easter holiday, and the Lee College Confederate Ball at 7:30 p.m.
Kollege Kapers a musical variety show runs March 29 at 8 p.m. in Lee College auditorium directed by John Jackson and Kenneth Pace with student performers from Lee College. The 1920s versus 1950s theme includes Charleston numbers pantomimes and modern jazz with songs and acts by Judy Bergeron, Ellen McLean, Joyce Alexander, and others. Admission is 50 cents for students and 1 dollar for adults.
Claudette Robinson and Kathryn Yandell report the Curtain Club presents Sam and Bella Spewack comedy My Three Angels in three acts directed by Mrs. Lynn O’Hagan. The Cayenne setting 1910 Christmas Eve features convicts dodging capture to aid an honest family. Cast includes Johnny Chandler Troy Long Tommy Wiley Felix Bobby Jones Emilie Barbara Young Marie Louise Claudette Robinson and Judy Bergeron.
Carl Green announces that Lee College students have been assigned to their faculty counselors for the spring semester. The list is posted on the bulletin board. Students are paired with their present teachers and can seek appointments for educational or vocational guidance, including access to their psychological test results.
Four Lee College students Delbert Derrett Betty Vee Wilson Donald Walker and Kay Danks were named to the Testing and Counseling Committee to share student viewpoints on the testing program and help administrators gauge progress.
Gamma Phi Kappa members and dates will attend a March dinner dance at Henri's in Houston with a seafood dinner. Miss Reba Neel and Coach Alton Laird are special guests. Following the event, plans proceed for a Galveston weekend getaway at Jack Tar.
Lee College asks all prospective summer school attendees to return completed questionnaires to the registrar immediately. The forms show preferred courses and hours to shape the summer schedule. Enrolled students can help by sharing blanks with potential attendees.
Dean Walter Rundell flew to Salt Lake City Utah from March 6 to March 9 for the annual meeting of the American Association of Junior Colleges. Registrar Dr David L Norton attended a regional registrar meeting in San Antonio with Mrs Norton last week to work on a uniform transcript form for high school graduates.
Dr. David L. Norton, registrar, reported several new Lee College veterans failed to clear records for benefits. Some lack Form 17-1995 from previous colleges. He urged new veterans to verify their status in the registrar's office at once.
Lee College was elected state president of the Texas Junior College Student Council Association at a San Antonio convention held February 21 23 Those from Lee College included Delbert Derrett Johnny Chandler Jeanne Raney Joan McAlvany Donald Walker Kay Danks Betty Vee Wilson Edwin Kersh and Kenneth Smith with coach Alton Laird dean of campus life accompanying the group The University of Texas Junior College Educational Department publishes the bulletin
Dean's Office data from Lee College after the first semester show rough grade distributions. About one quarter of business, science, engineering drawing, and mathematics students failed. art, music, P E and social sciences were far better with under 8 percent failing. Overall, 34 percent of grades were B, more than half of students earned B or better, while less than 23 percent were below C. Social sciences aligned closest to the traditional curve. Large groups included social sciences 649, sciences 431, English 394, mathematics 393. smaller: engineering drawing 65, art 50, foreign languages 40. 325 drops were not included in the data from 2844 enrollees.
