A man was arrested for selling strawberry plants without a license. Police found he was an escaped lifer from 1917 who changed his name to Joe Dollar. The case uncovers a long genteel past amid small town chatter.
Phi Theta Kappa hosted its annual Christmas party on December 21 in Bayshore Motors recreation room. Members and alumni played games including dominoes and banco, with prizes awarded to Jackie Alford Yvonne Morris and Dorothy Gierisch. Refreshments were served to a listed group of attendees.
Irene M. Knox dean of women at Ventura Junior College says marriage is for adults and there is no fixed maturity age. She urges at least one year of college before marrying to develop skills and understanding of marital responsibilities. Education is not only books but experience and shared life goals matter.
Final examination timetable runs 6:00 to 6:30 on Friday January 13 and 30 minutes on Monday January 16 and Wednesday January 18. 30 to 5:00 p m Tuesday January 17 and Thursday January 19. Teachers of vocational classes will coordinate to avoid conflicts with the regular exam schedule.
At the Rebel Inn on Wednesday night December 21 1949 members of Speech 391 held an after dinner speech set in 1959. Clarence Porter chaired the event as twenty four class members spoke about ten years of personal accomplishments. Senator Robinson delivered highlights of his year in Congress. Dolly Moskowitz shared poetry from her hometown and Gle Ann Massey was introduced as economist G Massey known for bold atomic age predictions.
Gamma Phi Kappa hosted a December 10 gathering at Dolly Moskowitz home. Members approved moving meetings to the second and fourth Sundays at 2 30 pm and discussed a possible hayride. The next meeting is January 8 at An nette Costley’s 909 North Ashbel. Exchanges of presents and refreshments followed.
Formal registration for the second semester is set for Monday January 23 from 1 to 9 pm. Advance registration is ongoing with steps guiding students from Room 223 for forms to Room 225 for testing to the College Office doors for classification, scheduling, and fee payment. Beginning courses include typewriting European history American history analytic geometry office practice English composition and more.
Dean Walter Rundell announced that every veteran under the G I Bill who changes fields next semester must contact the office promptly. Instruction 1-B dated October 12, 1949 requires advisement and counseling for field changes, with Guidance Centers operating on a schedule to meet demand and VA Form 1902e available in centers before the next term.
